I aim my mentoring both at non-professional AND professional Artists, as I have a real desire to help people discover and utilise their individual stories, that inner voice that can become so easily sat on by ineffective art teaching at school or a paralysing fear of drawing. All of us have an innate desire to make our mark - since man blew soot around his open hand on a cave wall to express "I am here!" - we all look for ways to articulate the grunts of our soul, we try to make sense of our uniqueness, why we are here at all even. Some want help just getting started in expressing that inner force, others have some drawing skill but don't know what to do with it. Encouraging and guiding someone to let go enough of their intellect in order to plug in to their imaginative response is not as hard as it might sound and the client comes to realise that learnt technical- skills CAN flow and mix with pure gut-response if they let them! It is often the letting-go and the listening that prove to be the key actions discovered by my clients which propel their vision and output forward. Being an Artist-Mentor is about building the confidence and skills of the client, challenging them to be the best Artist they can be as they use their imaginations to increase their sense of self and thereby build their own life stories ... They start to live and breathe their own narrative, they tell their own story. Like Life Coaching, Artist-Mentoring is about helping the client build an effective and glorious future by getting to grips with "the now". For some Artists, their path with me is simply about soul-expansion and self-expression, for others it is that, plus pushing for exhibitions and selling their work. However, the path for both is pretty similar, indeed all of life comes to us in narrative form, it's a story we tell ... us Artists just choose to do so in visual ways. Helping other Artists to stay on a productive path through their own story is a huge joy and privilege.
